Geoff Tywoniuk and Gene Carriere
are proud to announce Trailblazer Drilling, Lakota Drilling and Akuna Drilling will
now be Re-Branded to create Savanna Drilling.
Savanna was built with separate
divisions striving for a common purpose: Creating the best drilling company possible
by combining innovative, high quality equipment with great people. These
companies have achieved much success individually, and now look to realize
their combined potential. The new Savanna Drilling utilizes a combination of
the most technologically advanced patented hybrid rigs, upgraded conventional
oil drilling rigs and coring/delineation rigs to provide exceptional and diverse drilling
services throughout Canada
and the United States.
Creating Savanna Drilling solidifies
Savanna Energy Services Corp. as a leaner, meaner, more streamlined unit moving
forward. Although operationally the divisions will remain distinct, advantages
in purchasing power, recruitment/employee consolidation, and ancillary
equipment utilization will be employed to provide our customers with the most
benefit. In the words of CEO Ken Mullen, “Savanna was built to survive. Our
vision for Savanna has always been to grow a business that can be passed on to
future employees and shareholders. It is our objective that Savanna always
remain more than any key person, technology, division or region.”
Savanna Energy Services' U.S. headquarters are based in Houston, Texas.
Savanna continues to focus on expansion into the U.S.
market via the construction of a team built organically in the United States.
We are pleased to have Houston based drilling engineer Steve
Van Howe as our Vice President & General Manager, U.S.A.
Operations. Mr. Van Howe has extensive oil field experience in all aspects of
the oil and gas business, including drilling, well servicing, financial
reporting, business development and senior management, which benefit Savanna
greatly moving forward in the U.S.
Hybrid Coiled Tubing and
Drill Pipe Rigs
In 2002, Trailblazer Drilling
recognized the limitations of existing conventional and coiled tubing drilling
technology in handling some difficult drilling conditions. Savanna Drilling
designed and patented (in Canada
and the United States)
next-generation hybrid units which have the capacity to operate with coiled
tubing or with a conventional top drive off of the same rig. The conversion
from coil to conventional drilling is accomplished in the field without any
measurable cost or downtime. These units also have the capacity to drill and
pre-set casing.
The Savanna Drilling Hybrid
units also combine state-of-the-art pipe handling capabilities with an
innovative continuous pipe handling system designed to simplify and streamline
both jointed pipe and coiled tubing deployment for shallow drilling operations.
Savanna Drilling has completed the manufacturing and deployment of 46 hybrid
drilling units to date:
38 First Generation Hybrid
Rigs (CT1500)—capable of drilling up to1,500m vertical with 2 7/8" coiled
tubing or 1,200m with 3 1/2" drill pipe.
8 Second Generation Hybrid
(CT2200)—capable of drilling up to 2,200m vertical deep with 3 1/2" coiled
tubing or drill pipe.
All units, absent weather or
operational downtime have worked continuously since being introduced. Savanna
Drilling has expanded its fleet of hybrid rigs aggressively to meet customer
demand.
Conventional Drilling Rigs
Savanna Drilling operates one
of the newest conventional fleets of drilling rigs in North
America. The average age of the rigs is still less than 5 years
old, providing efficiencies that compliment their high service levels and
result in greater utilization. Top Drives, Automated pipe-handling (Iron
Derrickman) Mobile
designs (fewer loads, faster rig-up times) and larger pumps power the fleet.
The fleet is geographically
diversified throughout Canada
and the United States.
Lakota Drilling built a service-oriented contract drilling operation in Western
Canada from field offices in Nisku, Alberta and Carlyle,
Saskatchewan. Savanna Drilling
also has shops in Odessa and Weatherford,
Texas, and Haughton, Louisiana.
These shops provide support to the fleet of 104 (net) Technologically Upgraded
Double and Triple Drilling Rigs.
Savanna can furnish drilling
rigs for depths of 2500 to 3600 meters (8,200 to 11,800 ft) from our fleet of
46 telescopic double rigs. Two Triple drilling rigs are capable of drilling up
to 5000 m (16,400 ft.)
Shallow Drilling and Sandcoring
Since June 2005, Akuna
Drilling has been providing high quality and efficient shallow drilling and
oil-sands coring services to Western Canada's
oil and gas industry. Savanna Drilling's fleet of nine rigs specialize in
shallow oil and gas drilling, oil sand scoring, coal bed methane drilling and
pre-set casing services. Our rigs are designed to drill to maximum depths
ranging from 300 to 1200 meters.
