Savanna Drilling—Horizontal Drilling & Coil Tubing Experts Savanna Drilling offers an extensive fleet of new and technically advanced drilling rigs for virtually all depth ratings. With a fleet of 100 world class units, Savanna has been providing energy companies operating world wide with exceptional people, exceptional equipment, and exceptional value since 2001. Representing the third largest drilling fleet in Canada, Savanna Drilling has operational bases throughout Canada, the United States, and Australia.
Savanna’s rigs have operated in the Williston Basin; Bakken Formation; Horn River Shale; Utica Shale; Viking Play; Cardium Play; Lower Shaunavon Play; Fayetteville Shale; Marcellus Shale; Permian Basin; Doig/Montney Formation; Northern Alberta Oilsands; and of course the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Additionally, in 2011 Savanna embarked on operations in Australia in support of Coal Seam Gas (CSG) programs. Savanna's approach to drilling begins the same way it does for all our operations—with qualified people. Through our innovative training and safety initiatives, Savanna strives to provide all personnel with comprehensive and practical knowledge, as well as continued support and opportunity, from Roughneck to Rig Manager. Our fleet of patented Hybrid and Telescopic Double rigs is renown in western Canada and in the United States for delivering professional service and providing the kind of results only state-of-the-art rigs and experienced personnel can deliver. Savanna’s Hybrids set us apart as the first coiled tubing driller not requiring preset surface casing, and are capable of running casing themselves. Our Hybrids have proven efficient in vertical and horizontal drilling. Savanna's operations teams collectively have over 100 years of experience in vertical and horizontal drilling. Our team has personally designed and built virtually the entire fleet, continually refining each unit with the latest in technology and innovation. From AC operated top drives, to Iron Roughnecks and Iron Derrickhands, to video monitoring systems, we challenge ourselves to remain on the leading edge in terms of safety and efficiency. Through safety, training, and technology, Savanna Energy Services Corp. is dedicated to providing our employees, customers, and shareholders with the best the energy services industry has to offer.
Our FleetConventional Telescopic Double Drilling Rigs Savanna Drilling operates one of the newest conventional fleets of drilling rigs in North America, providing efficiencies that compliment high service levels and result in greater utilization. Top Drives, Automated pipe-handling (Iron Derrickman) Mobile designs (fewer loads, faster rig-up times) larger pumps and AC electric technology on newer units power the fleet. The fleet is geographically diversified throughout Canada and the United States and based on service-oriented contract drilling operations in Western Canada from field offices in Nisku, Alberta and Carlyle, Saskatchewan, Odessa and Weatherford, Texas, and Haughton, Louisiana. These shops provide support to the fleet of 100 Technologically Upgraded Double and Triple Drilling Rigs. Capable of drilling depths of 2500 to 4000 meters (8,200 to 11,800 ft) with our fleet of telescopic double rigs and depths of 5000m (16,400 ft.) with our two triples, Savanna’s fleet of deep well rigs excel in oil and deep shale gas plays across North America. Savanna has operated in the Williston Basin; Permian Basin; Barnett Shale; Bakken Formation; Marcellus Shale; Horn River Shale; Utica Shale; and the Doig/Montney Formation.
Hybrid Drilling Rigs Savanna Drilling designed and patented (in Canada and the United States) next-generation hybrid units which have the capacity to operate with coiled tubing or with a conventional top drive off of the same rig. The conversion from coil to conventional drilling is accomplished in the field without any measurable cost or downtime. These units also have the capacity to drill and pre-set casing.
- 23 First Generation Hybrid Rigs (CT-1500)—capable of drilling up to1,500m vertical with 2 7/8" coiled tubing or 1,200m with 3 1/2" drill pipe.
- 8 Second Generation Hybrid (TDS-2200)—capable of drilling up to 2,200m vertical deep with 3 1/2" coiled tubing or drill pipe.
All units, absent weather or operational downtime have worked continuously since being introduced. Savanna Drilling has expanded its fleet of hybrid rigs aggressively to meet customer demand, and has recently introduced two Hybrid rigs specifically designed for the Coal Seam Gas market in Australia.
TDS-3000™ Topdrive Single Drilling Rigs Built for the medium depth market, the TDS-3000™ compliments Savanna’s fleet by meeting needs in medium depth markets such as the Viking, Cardium, and lower Shaunavon Play. This new TopDrive Single is capable of reaching depths of 3000m and is built from the foundation of Savanna’s Hybrid fleet. A re-configuration of less active Hybrid rigs has enabled Savanna to diversify its fleet and all early indications are that the demand for the TDS-3000™ will be strong due to their features and benefits. Employing topdrive technology, these rigs are highly mobile, and capable of running up to Range 3 pipe for efficient drilling and less connections.
Savanna currently operates 15 TDS-3000™ rigs.
