Fast, Efficient Rigs

Our fleet of, VELOXTM Triple drilling rigs, Heavy and Ultra-Heavy telescopic double drilling rigs, TDS (Top Drive Single) Series, and patented Hybrid rigs are renowned for delivering professional service and providing the kind of results only state-of-the-art equipment and experienced personnel can deliver.

Savanna’s rigs have built a reputation for excellence in performance wherever they are deployed, including Horn River Shale; Viking Play; Cardium Play; Lower Shaunavon; Doig/Montney Formation; Northern Alberta Oilsands; East Duvernay; Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WSCB), Permian Basin; Delaware Basin; Eagle Ford; DJ Basin; Williston Basin; Bakken Formation; Utica Shale and Fayetteville Shale.

The Savanna team has personally designed and built virtually the entire fleet, continually refining each unit with the latest in technology and innovation. From AC controlled drawworks and top drives, to Iron Roughnecks, to video monitoring systems and hydraulic catwalks, we challenge ourselves to remain on the leading edge of technology with respect to safety and efficiency.

Through safety, training, and technology, Savanna is dedicated to providing our employees, customers, and shareholders with the best the energy services industry has to offer.

Coiled Tubing Hybrid Drilling Rig

In 2001, Savanna’s patented Hybrid technology gained a tremendous following as the first coiled tubing drilling rig not requiring preset surface casing, and capable of running casing itself. These Hybrids have proven efficient in vertical and horizontal drilling and set records while drilling shallow gas for customers in the Western Sedimentary Canadian Basin because of their extreme mobility and rapid rig up and rig out times. These rigs were designed to have small footprints, require less loads, and offer versatility.

CT-1500

The CT-1500 is capable of drilling with both pipe and coiled-tubing and can switch between one and the other in less than ten minutes.

Top Drive Single (TDS) Drilling Rig

In 2010, Savanna’s operations team reconfigured an underutilized portion of the Hybrid fleet to develop the prototype for the TDS (Top Drive Single) series. The TDS-3000 and TDS-2200 are long-reach single rigs with the same footprint and mobilization capacity of a Hybrid, and their development was truly an example of innovation in the face of the ever fluctuating oil and gas industry. Since the first TDS rig was deployed, Savanna has since built several more due to the platform’s success in plays with shallow to mid-range formations, including finding an application for TDS technology in Australia’s Coal Seam Gas (CSG) plays.

TDS Rigs key features:

  • Range 3 pipe
  • Hydraulic catwalk
  • Iron roughneck
  • Integrated top drive

Telescopic Double Drilling Rig

Savanna’s Heavy and Ultra-Heavy telescopic doubles are among the most mobile in their depth class. These long-reach rigs have hit total depths of over 6,000 meters or 18,000 feet while still being mobile enough to rig up, rig out, and rig back up again in the same day, depending on the location of the next well.

Savanna’s telescopic double drilling rigs represent the perfect balance of depth, power and speed.

Our Telescopic double rig fleet has up to date features including automated pipe handling, top drives, up to 1600 HP mud pumps, and AC drives providing precision control and maximum safety.

VELOXTM AC Triple Drilling Rig

These 1500 horsepower rigs are truly impressive using the latest in drilling technology such as automated catwalks and touch screen command centres. VELOXTM rigs employ hydraulic-based assembly efficiencies designed to dramatically REDUCE move times traditionally associated with rigs in this class. Three VELOXTM platforms: 355, 360 and 375, come with hookloads of 550,000lb, 600,000lb, and 750,000lbs respectively.

Velox is a Latin word meaning fast, rapid, or quick, and while it was chosen to brand Savanna’s new deep drilling long-range platform, it also aptly describes our rig building philosophy.

FAST Velox is a Latin word for quick, fast. Velox™ triples are lighter, faster, and equipped to mobilize and set-up safely with minimal manpower. All three platforms move on the X&Y axis with a pad configuration and optional umbilical mud system.

DEEP All three Velox™ platforms are capable of drilling deep horizontal wells safely and quickly.

SAFE Automation and technology in today’s drilling environments are truly remarkable. Savanna’s Velox™ triples employ Iron Roughnecks, Hercules Hydraulic Catwalk Systems, and AC Drawworks for precise control and automatic fail safes.
